The Irlandés story:
Mexico and Ireland. united.
Irlandés Tequila honors the brave soldiers of the Irish San Patricios Battalion who traveled to Mexico in 1847 to fight alongside the courageous young Mexican soldiers, Los Niños Heroes, the Heroic Sons to make glorious history together. It is in essence celebrating gallantry, grit and valor. Original. Authentic. Pure. The taste of freedom.
The Battalion De San Patricios and the Los Niños Heroes. United.
In 1847, the two unlikely forces of six Mexican boys and 50 Irish soldiers found themselves defending the flag of Mexico. Together. They were hopelessly outnumbered.
Francis O’Connor, a dying soldier from the Irish battalion, was annointed by a Mexican priest with holy water he had carried with him from a sacred well in his motherland. (Incredibly, it is this water from that exact same source, that Irlandés Tequila is made with.)
Among the many other feats of valor that day, one boy, Juan Escutia, defied his captors, wrapped himself in his nation’s flag and leapt to his death from the top of Chapultepec Castle in front of the Irish fighters, uniting Ireland and Mexico.
Nobility and Courage. United.
100 years later, in 1947, United States President, Harry S. Truman, flew to Mexico and laid a wreath at the monument honoring these heroes saying, “Brave men don’t belong to any one country. I respect bravery wherever I see it.” Old wounds of history were finally laid to rest.
Today, Irlandés Tequila exists as a distillation of these events, emotions and ingredients, bringing together the past, present and future in the spirit of unity, celebration and joy.
Vive todo el tiempo que quieras pero nunca quieras mientras vivas.
